With the opening of terminal 3 of Ben Gurion international airport, the long awaited shall come into being -

The fast intercity line of Israel Railways to Ben-Gurion will begin its operation.

Travelers going abroad will for the first time be able to arrive directly from Tel-Aviv, Haifa or Nahariya to the entrance of the new Israeli international airport terminal. The passengers will then alight from the train onto escalators which will lead them to… none other than the terminal's departure halls.

Though the first departures from the new terminal are scheduled for the beginning of November, Israel Railways has already completed the new railroad tracks' construction as well as the novel station which is situated nearby the new terminal.

The maiden voyage of the new Tel Aviv-Ben Gurion Airport line has already taken place on 15.6.04, with 50 representatives of the Bonds organization from Canada and the U.S.A. participating in the inauguration of the line. The establishment of the railway line to Ben Gurion Airport represents a significant breakthrough in mass transit capability from different parts of Israel to the airport. Thus Israel Railways makes Israel a member of those countries worldwide offering railway transportation between the metropolis and the international airport.

The length of the line is approximately 8 kilometers, 700 meters of which pass through tunnels. The longest of these, measuring 450 meters in length, passes beneath highway #1. The new line also makes use of the longest railroad track bridge - 200 meters in length - for crossing the Ayalon River. Around 64 trains will operate on the line daily carrying passengers to and from Ben Gurion Airport. It is expected that this line will provide services to up to 100 thousand passengers every month, providing them the benefit of saving both time and money. The duration of the ride from Tel-Aviv is approximately 10 minutes.
